Reporting to the Director General and as a member of the executive team, the Director, Aquaculture and Fisheries Sciences will be responsible for  two key business areas : Lead the vision and strategy for the WorldFish research programs:  As a member of the Executive Team, provide the science leadership for the development and implementation of a coherent global research strategy for WorldFish. The incumbent will ensure that the WorldFish research strategy: Delivers innovative science, working through diverse partnerships to achieve research advances and impacts at scale. Aligns with the research priorities of beneficiaries and donors. Aligns with the WorldFish rationale for its geographical focus. Enhance global collaboration in aquaculture and fisheries research:  Responsible for the overall leadership and coordination of initiatives to enhance global collaboration to reduce poverty and hunger by improving aquaculture and fisheries. The incumbent will take a leading role in communicating an inspirational vision to develop research initiatives that will enable aquaculture and fisheries to reach their full potential to improve the livelihoods and nutrition of the poor and undernourished. Key responsibilities Lead the on-going development of WorldFish research strategy and associated country and regional implementation strategies to ensure that research contributes to the achievements of development outcomes. Provide dynamic leadership and vision for the role of aquaculture and fisheries in the global efforts to tackle poverty, hunger and environmental degradation via the CGIAR research programs (CRPs). Lead the design, development and execution of research programs throughout the organization, to enable quality outcomes and impact through integration of the program with other CRP’s and bi-laterals. Shared leadership for resource mobilization and a strong funding pipeline to ensure a diverse portfolio of funding vehicles with a view on risk minimization and sustainable resources required to achieve the objectives of the WorldFish research strategy. Represent WorldFish research interests in the CGIAR Consortium and associated high level forums through appropriate influence and engagement in system level activities as delegated by the Director General. As a member of the Executive Team, ensure effective and efficient integration of CRPs and bi-lateral research projects with WorldFish. Build strong relationships with research and development partners (public and private) and identify opportunities for collaborative research. Provide collaborative leadership through strong partnerships with executive level peers to strengthen overall leadership effectiveness, and with the science leadership team (SLT), strengthen the rigor and integration of science underpinning our CRPs and other programs. As a member of the Executive Team and a Senior Leadership Team member, influence and shape the organization’s direction while providing challenging and pragmatic insights to reflect external realities and represent the Director General as required. REQUIREMENTS A completed PhD in aquaculture or fisheries or related discipline. More than 15 years of international research and development experience, including the application of research results for developing countries conditions, addressing food security, poverty alleviation, human nutrition and health. A minimum of 10 years of progressive responsible leadership experience including the leadership and management of an organization or a complex business unit in the public or private sectors or academia. A sustained record of achievement and innovation, an established reputation and strong publication record in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals, a track record in R&D for public/private partnerships. Demonstrated success in resource mobilization from a global donor network including governments, foundations and private sector. Experience living and working in at least two regions, evidenced leadership that inspires trust and loyalty from staff of different nationalities and cultures; and demonstrated commitment to building a diverse workforce. Demonstrated quality of judgment and the ability to think strategically, assessing and responding to new challenges in development. Superior written and oral communication skills in English, knowledge of other major language(s) desirable. Time frame and location This position will be based at the WorldFish HQ in  Penang, Malaysia , with extensive travel to various countries where we work. Interviews are expected to be held in Penang, Malaysia ,  and short-listed candidates should be available to attend. The successful candidate should be available to commence by  September 2016  for an initial 3 year fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension.
