Job Description


To support the Aquaculture Manager both in building relationships with the fish farmers, gathering industry data, undertaking research and in developing the Aquaculture Hub as a value laden department.


  • To support the Manager both in building relationships with fish Farmers and in developing the a aquaculture HUB
  • To support the development of Aquaculture related ideas and projects
  • To play a central role in managing the collection and presentation of Aquaculture related data
  • To engage with our fish farming partners (suppliers) to gather data, understand innovations, support research and promote continuous improvement.
  • To provide data and reports for our Waitrose client (i.e. both regular and one offs)
  • To manage the harvest planning data and liaise with internal procurement role as required
  • To visit farms in order to undertake 'Select Farm’ audits and/or other data gathering projects
  • To liaise with our farming partners to organise visits to farms, harvesting and packing units as required


  • We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and task orientated individual with a good working knowledge of fish farming and an ability to gather, manipulate and present Aquaculture related data.
  • A questioning mind and an interest in detail are essential but not to the detriment of being able to make decisions and move ideas forward to action. Candidates will also be personable, good listeners and keen to communicate with a wide range of people either via the phone, by email or face to face as required.
  • As well as being able to work well in collaboration with others, candidates will also be well organised, able to work independently and not afraid to take the initiative when appropriate.
  • The successful candidate should have a strong desire for identifying and promoting gold standard best practice within the farming community.

Required skills and competencies

  • A working knowledge of farming Technical issues (i.e. fish health, chemical use etc.)
  • Scientific mindset………….comfortable gathering, interpreting and presenting data/reports (often of a scientific nature)
  • Data mining and gathering of Key Performance Indicators
  • Ability to undertake research/projects
  • Ability prioritise information/tasks and work efficiently
  • Attentive to detail, logical and diligent approach
  • Flexibility - ability to juggle a variety of tasks and adapt quickly to change
  • Ability to operate as part of a team.

Qualifications required

  • Degree or above in biological sciences, aquaculture or other related area
  • Good fish health knowledge
  • Minimum of 2 years fish farming related experience
