Job Description

The role

Due to the continued expansion of our fisheries certification business, MEC wish to recruit an additional member to the team. This is a permanent full time post based in the Lymington head office, working with two other lead assessors and a further support team of experts located internationally. The role offers the opportunity to work with both new and existing clients seeking certification against the MSC and ASC standards, in both local and far away destinations around the world.
The role of a Lead Fisheries Assessor is as follows.
1. Project manage fishery assessments, including but not limited to:

  • Responsibility for deliverables and deadlines
  • Manage the assessment teams and the assessors’ inputs
  • Manage communications with the client and stakeholders
  • Prepare reports and relevant documents on time
  • Keep MEC’s database updated with relevant project information
  • Arrange logistics for site visits
  • Contribute when required during annual office audits

2. Support business development, including contributing to the writing of proposals and managing communications with potential clients.
3. Completing MSC Chain of Custody audits when required, likely to be up to one day a week at peak times.
Candidate description
The ideal candidate would have the following:
A Master’s degree in marine biology, fisheries science or other relevant subject

  • At least 2 years professional experience in one or more of the following areas: aquatic or marine resource management, marine or aquatic ecology, sustainable resource management, stock assessment, fisheries management
  • Proven ability to hit deadlines and deliver professional reports
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Ability to work and coordinate with teams of highly experienced fishery experts
  • Willingness to travel when required (generally short trips for the completion of site visits)

Salary and holiday Starting salary is negotiable, depending on relevant experiences and suitability for the role, but is likely to be between £20,000.00 - £28,000.00 per annum. The selected candidate will enjoy 25 days of paid holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 30 with length of service.
